It Is Great to be Two!

“A good laugh is as good as a prayer sometimes.”

L.M. Montgomery, author of Anne of Green Gables books, 1874-1942

The hospice nurse was here yesterday and my phosphorous level is very low now. This may account for some of the severe fatigue, shortness of breath, brain fog, etc. I’m waiting on an order from the doctor about how much to increase my medication. I’ve developed numbness in two fingers on my left hand due to one of the tumors pressing on my spinal cord which in turn is pressing on a nerve to my hand.

I’m continuing to work on my book, Hands and Hearts—Making Prayer Visible. It is slow going since I have to rest a lot. A hospice volunteer is helping me once a week for a couple of hours—a BIG help! My “Dream Team,” is the best! These six people read drafts and critique grammar, punctuation, and clear communication!

Over the past three weeks I’ve spent 12 days with daughter Heather’s family while Terry was in Virginia and Charlotte NC. I took lots of naps, read lots of books to the little ones and laughed so much that I was hoping Proverbs 17:22 (A cheerful heart is good medicine…) would take on some of the effects of better blood phosphorous levels!

Tucker, our 2 ½ year old grandson, was the culprit that got me into trouble more than once when I laughed at something he said or did that his Mom thought was not so funny! Ah! But I get to come back to my house and let her “straighten him out!”

  • Tuck can roll his big brown eyes just like his Mom when he wants to distract you!
  •  He gets a big kick out of grinning and showing you how well he’s chewed his food while he rolls those big brown eyes!
  • Just like his Mom, he quickly lets you know, “Mom, these clothes don’t match!”
  • His favorite clothes are no clothes!
  • His preschool teacher says he’s the class comedian!
  • Best of all, he lives by the “Laws of a Toddler” and makes no apologies!
    • 1. If I like it, it’s mine.
      2. If it’s in my hand, it’s mine.
      3. If I can take it from you, it’s mine.
      4. If I had it a little while ago, it’s mine.
      5. If it’s mine, it must never appear to be yours in any way.
      6. If I’m doing or building something, all the pieces are mine.
      7. If it looks just like mine, it’s mine.
      8. If I think it’s mine, it’s mine.

Never a dull moment at the Daniels B&B!

Oh, Donna! Once again you’be given me laughter and uplifted me in a way that only you can do. Bless you, my sister.

Does your hospice have Music Therapists? They are quite wonderful to have on one’s team.

Sending you and Terry big hugs this morning and giving God a stern nudge to up those phosphorous levels.

    Much love,

    Kitty

Dear sweet Donna, I pray for you by name everyday. You are an inspiration. Grandchildren are a blessing from God. I have a sign that says “What happens at Grandma’s House NEVER happened”. Love ’em and send them home.

That’s our boy! So happy that all of the kids are able to get good quality Granu time when you’re here. Even if its 45 minute dissertations on the rules of volleyball. Love you!

Laughter IS the best medicine and I really laughed when I read all of your comments about Tucker. You’ve heard me tell tales of my son and he knows he got someone just like himself in his second boy! Here is a quote that Brian retweeted recently. “Testing a theory: Is anyone else’s first child an angel but your second kid has the cutest face but may need bail money one day?” Well, we never needed bail money but the phone call from the nurse in the emergency room from a small town in Maryland (on the way back to WVU) was enough of a heart stopper!

I think about you every day and wish I could be there now to help you with your book but glad you have a Dream Team of helpers to get you to your goal. Virtual hugs to you and Terry. . .
